It’s All About Me and a Little About You

When demigoddess Mocha Momma BEGGED me to do this BlogMe 07 thingy I was like, “Oh, alright. I guess I could do it” because you know…I hate to see a grown woman cry and stuff ;)

So anyway, the name of the game is to illuminate yourself as much as you can in ten seconds. Ten seconds? Is that ten seconds of typing? Ten seconds of thinking? I confuse easily.

Okay, here goes some serious stream of consciousness nonsense about me:

• I have a BA in Communications, for all the good it’s done me.

• I used to teach developmentally-delayed adults

• I also used to teach Beginning and Advanced Photoshop at a design college.

• I went on the internet for the first time in 1994 and it’s been true love ever since.

• I own the domain name ilovecoffeecups.com because? I love coffee cups (but no, I don’t actively collect them). Yes, I’m serious.

Fascinating, aren’t I?

Well then…I hope you won’t mind if I move on to another little assignment because, as the title of this posts indicates, it’s ALL about ME and the more you know me, the more you shall love me — or find me incredibly annoying.

Okay, I was tagged for this baby several weeks ago by Dallas Meow and as always, I’m late but I don’t think it matters because it’s not like these eight things about me are going to expire or get moldy or anything, right? Right.

Alrighty then. Please fasten your seatbelts as these facts fall under the category of “extreme excitement” and I wouldn’t want you to get hurt and then try to sue me or something.

1- I have two gray hairs in my head that I pull out whenever they appear.

2- I have a long white hair that grows from my forehead above my eyebrow. Don’t try to look for it because I pluck it religiously.

3- I fail to see the fascination with watermelon. I hate the texture and the seeds and it’s just too…watery.

4- I also loathe egg salad or any salad that has chopped onions, celery or relish in it. NO crunchy shit in my tuna, potato or pasta salad, dammit!

5 - I’m seriously craving baby back ribs this week. MUST HAVE.

6 - I want to buy this adorable bungalow, fix it up and sell it for a tidy profit. I’m completely obsessing over it this week, along with those ribs.

7- I’ve always wanted to own my own business. I have an awesome idea for one but I can’t tell you what it is. Oh, and can I borrow $200,000? I’m totally good for it.

8- My credit score is a gleaming 794. I’m a good risk. Can I get that money now?

Sick of me yet? Yeah, me too.

Moving on…

Okay, now it’s my turn to pass the memes, dole out love and things of that nature.

I was named a Rockin’ Girl Blogger by four mighty nice ladies and each time is worth five people that I’m also supposed to deem Rockin’ so that’s like…TWENTY PEOPLE?

Holy Timesuck, Batman! It’s not that I don’t know twenty rockin’ chicks but seriously, it’s 11pm and the sofa is a-callin’ my name so even though I can think of hundreds of women worthy of the title, I’m going to narrow it down to just a few bloggers that are new/newish to me because I like to spread the lurve far and wide, dig?

Drum roll, please!

And my designees for Rockin Girl Blogger status are, in no particular order:

Judy from the GoodyBlog for many reasons that should be plainly obvious to all who know her awesomeness and because I love the GoodyBlog. It’s like all the best mom, baby, parenting, news and shopping blogs all rolled up into one; serving up wonderful, tasty morsels every day.

Aimee from GreebleMonkey. She’s smart, always interesting and she wrote this post that made me want to stand up and cheer, mostly because I don’t have the balls to go there, even though I totally agree.

Working Girl from Pad and Panty. Working Girl is a labor and delivery nurse. She writes a lot about her job and I’m completely fascinated by her stories.

Bitsy Parker of ValueWit and Props and Pans. Opinionated, observant and funny…I adore Bitsy’s writing. There’s just something about the way she tells a story or writes a review that I love.

Canape of Don’t Take the Repeats and Props and Pans. The heart behind Team WhyMommy, Canape is doing amazing things for her dear friend WhyMommy, who was recently diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer. She’s not really new to me but she truly does rock.

Fairly Odd Mother of Fairly Odd Mother says she is a married, workaholic, homeschooling, liberal, quasi-vegetarian stay-at-home mom to three beautiful children. I just dig her.

Slouching Mom of Slouching Towards 40. She writes these amazing posts. Some reach out and touch my heart and others are just so beautifully crafted that I feel like I’m reading a piece of art. That’s the only way I can describe it.

That’s all for now. I may add others later when my eyeballs are more up to the task of staying open without one of those scary eye-holder-opener devices from “A Clockwork Orange”

If you made it this far, leave a comment so I can make YOU a ROCKIN’ READER and give ya some linky love. Mwah!!!!

Oh, and if you want to do the BlogMe in Ten Seconds meme (whether you’re attending BlogHer or not) you can find all the info here.

As a matter of fact, I think I’ll tag ALL OF YOU!

And to sweeten up this looong post just a teeny bit more, there’s booty to be scored over at Props and Pans. We’re giving away one of those ultra-cool SATees for a baby, toddler or child — YOUR CHOICE! All you have to do is leave a comment telling us which one you want if you’re the winner. It’s a total no-brainer and even if you don’t have kids, they make a great gift!

I’ve Been Thinking…

and if I understand correctly, I’m supposed to give these cool Thinking Blogger awards to people in general, rather than for specific posts, but I’m a a rebel, a rulebreaker, a rabblerouser…

You get the picture.

And because of that, I’m going to bend the rules a bit and give this award to some bloggers who have written specific posts that resonated with me and of course, made ME think.

˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚

I’m giving a Thinking Blogger award to Grace Davis of State of Grace for her post “Internet, is it Okay to Ask Someone About Their Ethnicity?” With this awesome post, Grace opens the floor for all sorts of questions that people have about race and ethnicity and the comments are equally fascinating. This post really spoke to me because until her death in 1980, I was forever asked why I didn’t look Asian like my mom and thus, the topic of questions about ethnicity is of particular interest to me.

˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚

I’m also giving a Thinking Blogger award to Tracey of Sweetney for this post because this is a topic that is important to me and one I, myself have written about on several occasions. Additionally, she is quite a thinker in her own right. Read her blog and see for yourself.

˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚

And I’m giving an award to Meghan of I’m Ablogging for this post, which is also on the same topic as Tracey’s post. In my estimation, anyone who has the ability to see the madness for what it is and blogs about it is most definitely a Thinking Blogger.

Rock on, ya’ll!

˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚

And big ol’ thank you’s to Pendullum of Dribblingwitt, Jessica of Oh, the Joys, Christina from A Mommy Story and Julie of The Ravin’ Picture Maven for bestowing the Thinking Blogger award upon me. Much obliged, ladies :)

I’ve Been Served

I’ve been served, which is just Tracey’s nice way of saying I have to do this thing or else I’m a commie and I ain’t no fricken commie. A socialist perhaps, but never a commie. And thus, I am complying and listing seven songs I am into right now.

But before the listing commences, a disclaimer is necessary lest you conclude that must I live in some weird biodome or time capsule or something:

I am not, for the most part, into much current music. Our radio stations are horrible ClearChannel and Infinity-owned crapfests and MTV? They don’t even play music videos anymore, do they?

The last CD I bought? A Laurie Berkner disk for my six year old.

In short, I just don’t have many options for keeping up so I tend to play old stuff 95% of the time unless the huz turns me onto something new.

I came to these choices by noting which songs I was listening to when I took P for a stroll yesterday:

Nothing To Fear
by Depeche Mode

Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger

Something Good by Utah Saints

River Euphrates by The Pixies

Where is My Mind by The Pixies

Dre Day by Dr. Dre

Don’t Stop [Fatboy Slim Mix] by The Freestylers

Okay, I’m going to get all super ambitious here and tag some people that probably do NOT, as a rule, do memes. Or maybe they do?? Or will. For me ;)

MetroDad, Melissa, and Jay? You’ve been tagged!

Your mission? It’s easy. Just list seven songs you are into right now, no matter what they are. Then tag seven some other people to see what they’re listening to.

If anyone is just dying to do this meme or if you just need some filler for the weekend or what have you, feel free to tag yourself and slap my name on it.

Five Facts

I beg your indulgence. P and I are both sick with terrible colds and my head is sooo heavy and snot-laden that I’m actually grateful to have been tagged by Spig for this meme. You understand, don’t you?

Five (slightly odd) Facts About Me

1: I love marching bands. Whenever I hear one in person, the hair on my arms stands up and I get goosebumps.

2: I love Tiny Size Chiclets. I’ll buy five packs at a time and eat them all in one sitting.

3: I always cry while watching the Olympics; during the opening & closing ceremonies, when people win, when people lose…

4: I stay up ridiculously late and take a nap every morning. I’ve had my days and nights mixed up for as long as I can remember. Most nights I get a second wind around 10 or 11pm and then I don’t want to go to bed.

5: I floss my teeth every night no matter what. I’ve seen what gum disease can to your grill…

I’m going to tag some chicas from Props and Pans –> Emily, Gidget, Mary, Canape and Nicole please consider yourselves tagged for this Five Facts About Me meme. If you hate memes, feel free to skip. If I didn’t tag you and you want to be tagged, you can pretend that I did.

Have you voted yet for the finalists in the Share the Love blog awards? Hey, you! I see you rolling your eyes over there!

But seriously, I’m a finalist in the Woman Power category and some great bloggers that I’m very fond of are finalists as well. if you haven’t already voted, go check out who’s nominated for what and throw us a bone! And thank you so much to Heather for sponsoring the awards!

In Which I Reveal My Tomboy Fixation

I informed Tony that he was tagging me for this meme because I really need the distraction. I must stop being so dour. I have to find my funny and snap out of this. A mindless meme might be just the ticket.Hell, I might just do them for the rest of the month. A Month Long Meme of Memes. Hmmm.

Feel free to play along in the comments (or tag yourself).

My Top Ten Fave TV Characters (in no particular order)

Miles Drentell from Thirtysomething - While I truly loved all the characters on TS, ad exec Miles Drentell was one of the most compelling characters I’ve ever encountered on a TV drama. Complicated and hard to understand, he manipulated and mindf*cked Michael and Elliot relentlessly and yet, you missed him when he was gone.

Buddy from Family - Man…I fricken loved that show. I had a total girl crush on tomboy Kristy McNichol who played “Buddy”. I seriously thought she was the coolest thing on TV during that era. And when Leif Garrett was on as her boyfriend…hoooo boy!

Rayanne Graff from My So-Called Life - Rayanne was the wild, crazy, irresponsible girl that the rest of us wished we could be for a day…or night. Her character was fairly complex for a teen TV drama and despite her being a major screw-up, you had to love her.

Bill from Freaks and Geeks - Unfortunately, this awesome but short-lived show was critically acclaimed, which seems to be the kiss of death on American television and thus it was only on for one season. All the characters were great but I loved Bill, an awkward, gangly, geeky high school freshmen in the late 70’s.

Ned from Ned & Stacey - Ned (Thomas Haden Church), pretty much a major asshat, was also one of the funniest fricken characters on TV. EVER.

Jo Polniaczek from Facts of Life - Another tomboy type that I admired, Jo was really pretty and she didn’t take any sh!t. ’nuff said.

Dr. Perry Cox from Scrubs - Funny, funny, funny…I love Dr. Cox!

Alan Shore of Boston Legal - I don’t watch this show regularly anymore but I still maintain that Alan Shore is one of the best written characters on television. Complex, enigmatic, irreverent, brilliant and funny; even when he’s bad he’s good.

Charlies Angels - Oh man…I could never choose. I was always torn between classy Kelly (Jaclyn Smith) foxy Jill (Farrah Fawcett) and brainy Sabrina (Kate Jackson). So perfect in my nine year old eyes; they drove bad ass cars and wore kick ass clothes and they ALWAYS got the bad guys *sigh*

Jordan Catalano of My So-Called Life - Jared Leto as brooding bad boy that doesn’t talk much. And those eyelashes… Hello? Do I really need to explain this one?

˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚

And if I may toot my own horn ever so briefly….

Thank you, Jana, for nominating this piece for a Perfect Post award! I’ve never received one before and I’m so flattered!

A Perfect Post
