This is a compensated review by BlogHer and Tom’s of Maine.
We were recently offered to try Tom’s of Maine Silly Strawberry toothpaste. Actually, my kids were offered the chance to try it and I agreed to videotape it.
I had a feeling they would like it and my suspicions were confirmed when my daughter said she liked it better than what we normally use because it’s not mint. She doesn’t care for mint; says it burns her tongue. How she can actually be my child is a mystery to me because I LOVELOVELOVE mint anything but regardless, she hates it and asked after we were done videotaping if she could use the Silly Strawberry toothpaste EVERY time she brushes. I’d say that qualifies it as an official hit with my older child.
My younger child is four and we still brush his teeth. While his ability to eat an entire box of spearmint Tic Tacs in about 9 minutes flat tells me he doesn’t hate mint, he was also quite keen on the Silly Strawberry toothpaste. Watch the video to see his ultra cute response to it!
Silly Strawberry Toothpaste! from Janet on Vimeo.
Overall, the Tom’s of Maine Silly strawberry toothpaste got a big thumbs up from both kids, while I like it because it’s got less chemical crap in it than your average toothpaste. I personally have not tasted it but the fact that the kids dig it is reason enough to consider buying it for them—anything that makes toothbrushing more appealing to my children is a WIN in my book.
Tom’s of Maine says: Only one natural oral care company carries the ADA Seal of Acceptance for a children’s toothpaste, Tom’s of Maine Anticavity Children’s Silly Strawberry with Fluoride. And because we care as much as you do, we’ve never tested it on animals or added artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. It’s flavored with natural oils for a great strawberry taste they’ll love.

My kids enjoy brushing their teeth, so there’s no real coaxing involved. I think they enjoy their character toothbrushes (Spongebob and “Cars”). They’re not crazy about flossing, though.
I blogged about this:

We’re pretty lucky I guess. Our 3 year old son brushes his teeth without much of a fight most of the time. Usually, it’s more of a fight that it’s time for bed.

I scrape my kids teeth and show them the gunk., “Ewwww!” and they go running to the sink! ;o)
I just tell my son his teeth will fall out, or that we have to brush to get the bugs out of his mouth. ;) Thankfully, he doesn’t ever put up a fight. I let him brush first, then I check them and get the “missed” spots.
My 2 yr old quadruplets actually love to brush their teeth. I think it’s a game to them. We started brushing at a young age and I think that has helped!
I don’t have kids, but my brother makes tooth-brushing a family affair – everyone does it together. It seems to work.
I let my son brush in the shower, it’s the place that gets the job done without the battle.
I get my kids to brush by telling them how it is so important to have healthy teeth.
My daughter loves to brush. It makes her feel like a big girl. She brushes before she goes to bed.

I bought the light-up toothbrushes. These toothbrushes light up and when they go off the kids are finished brushing. The kids love these toothbrushes and I like that the light keeps the kids brushing.
With my quadruplets, it’s monkey see – monkey do! Once one of them is “having fun” brushing they all happily line up!
main entry: By letting the kids have their own are with all their items like toothbrush toothpaste hairbrush etc they enjoy getting ready. thanks

This is horrible but I tell my daughter that if she doesnt brush she will end up losing her teeth just like papaw! It actually works so we just stay with it even as aweful as it is!

This is a little on the horrible side, but I’ve told my son that if he does not brush his teeth “the bugs” will get into his mouth (bugs meaning plaque, but bugs seems to have a better impact). Since there has been some commercials on TV showing the plaque bugs crawling around in some persons mouth, that has reinforced things. Whatever anyone may think, my son has excellent teeth brushing routine and beautiful teeth.

My oldest son has no problem brushing. It was a struggle with my younger son. Now that he loves to do everything that his big brother does – I use that for everything good – including brushing his teeth!

I have quadruplet toddler boys who are just now “cutting their teeth” on tooth brushing. We simply called the toothpaste a “treat” and that was all it has taken. They remind me to do it now. Don’t know how long that will last, but so far so good!
My daughter likes when we pretend to sneak up on the food and brush it out!
We like to sing the ABCs while brushing. It makes it fun, and I love hearing my boy trying to sing while his mouth is wide open for the toothbrush!

My daughter doesn’t have enough teeth for a good brushing! I’m sure having strawberry/cherry toothpaste couldn’t hurt!
When my sons were young (they are now 16 and 21), I tried all kinds of different toothpastes and found that Tom’s Strawberry flavored was their favorite. I never had any trouble getting them to brush because they liked the flavor.
I think one of the best ways to get kids to brush is to get them a fun toothbrush. Anything is more fun and interesting when it’s your favorite color, a fun color or features a cool tv character! :)

I always told my daughter that the tooth fairy pays more for clean teeth!
My husband is big on brushing and monitors their brushing activities; they don’t have a problem brushing morn. and night.
Making brushing our teeth a family event helps. We have two sinks so floss and brush together.

Electric toothbrushes make brushing fun and easy for our kids!
I don’t have kids, but when I do, I will get them to brush by making it a habit at a young age and explaining the importance of healthy teeth.

My mom used to make a game out of it. We had to brush our teeth as well as possible or else the plaque monster would get us. Didn’t scare us but it did make us laugh

Getting my daughter to brush is no problem thanks to the educational efforts of her dentist, dental hygienist, and school health teacher.
I tell them their teeth will fall out like grandpa’s if they dont brush…that usually works, but sometimes they say “That would be funny, I dont care if my teeth fall out” You win some, you lose some!

Fiber makes us feel full sooner and stays in our stocamh longer than other substances we eat, inhibiting our rate of digestion and keeping us feeling full longer. Due to its significantly larger fiber content, a single serving of wholegrain bread can be more filling than two servings of white bread. Fiber also moves fat through our digestive system faster so that less of it is absorbed.
My kids don’t really put up much of a fight. It’s just been a part of their routine since birth

We buy those electric spinning toothbrushes. Our children brush beside mom or dad and they imitate exactly what we do. from Start to finish.

We made toothbrushing a part of the routine for getting ready for bed and our children accepted that (of course, we checked to see that there was no skipping).

Since I don’t have children of my own, I’ll share my friend’s story. She bought her children toothbrushes that play music, and when the music stops, the children can stop brushing their teeth. Its really a neat idea. And the kids love it!

would you believe my secret weapon is food coloring?
I have them open their mouths and add a drop or two of food coloring under the tongue. Tell them to swish it around their mouth and spit it out. Rinse with water. Ask them to smile while looking into the mirror
Now brush! I have them brush until all of the color is gone. Brush the tongue too. Carefully inspect your child’s teeth for any remaining color. If there is still color, then this is a place that wasn’t thoroughly brushed. Just re-brush that spot.

Fun toothbrushes and good tasting toothpaste does the trick!
We taught them very young, so it’s a habit now!
We showed them how to brush when they were young, and they like the flavored toothpastes now and the character brushes. It makes it easier to get them to brush :)
A good way is having cute toothbrushes and tasty toothpaste.

I don’t have my own children but I tell the kids I watch that brushing your teeth is the “in” thing that teenagers love to do. They want to be cool like the older kids so it’s pretty easy to get them to brush! I also brush with them so we make a game out of it.
