So NOT Fair…
Friday afternoon at doctor’s office: This is how my foot looked when I was 39 weeks pregnant. But rest assured, I’m not pregnant and my foot is not normally this bloated and shapeless.

Saturday morning: It is, however, the bitter new occupant of this rather ugly, awkward and dreadfully ginormous cast.

Note the progression from merely chubby foot to slightly bruised and casted foot to totally purple and hideous casted foot.
Diagnosis: partial fracture and two heinously torn ligaments, compliments of a seemingly harmless little accident.
Forgive my naked and unfashionably hyper-cropped toenails. Once the cast was on and I knew I wouldn’t be able to get a pedicure next week in honor of BlogHer 08, I cut them super short.
Which reminds me… I’ll be wearing this stupid thing for the next 4-6 weeks and I’m not supposed to walk on it for more than a few minutes at a time unless using crutches (which I officially hate), need to keep it elevated, blah blah blah — so I can’t go to BlogHer this year.
I suppose I could guilt some of you into waiting for me as I hobbled ten feet behind you everywhere we went. Maybe one of you would even be so kind as to carry all my shit so I could use the hated crutches.
But I really don’t want to be that person so I’m going to stay home and live vicariously through Twitter.
And? I’m selling I’ve sold my 2 day full conference pass for the bargain price of $200. They’re currently going for $298 so it’s not a bad deal.
I considered giving it away but dude…we have a ridiculously high deductible on our shitass HSA (health savings account) and thus none of my treatment was covered. I owe BIG! bucks for this fun-filled suckstravaganza.
So help a sistah out and buy my 2 day conference pass. Hell, make me an offer!
Or if you don’t need a pass, perhaps you’d consider mentioning my little fire sale on your blog? Surely someone out there still needs one. Think of all the good karma you’ll be racking up :)
(And just so you know…I’m really sad about not being able to go. I’ll miss ya’ll)

I am seriously bummed that you will not be there. I hope your foot heals up quickly.
oh no! i was looking forward to meeting you at the people’s party. :(
i hope you heal quickly and without too much dependence on the hated crutches!
Oh no! That is completely crappy. :(
And it super sucks about you missing BlogHer.
I hope the next six weeks fly by.
Can I sign your cast? :)
Oh man. That sucks that you have to pull out so close to the conference. And also that you have to wear a cast. I always wanted one when I was little, but have totally changed my tune. We’ll blog and twitter extra lots so you don’t miss anything!
Oh sweetie that is terrible! Perhaps we can have our own ‘wish we were at BlogHer’ blog party?
We could rock the internets girl!
Oh no! I’m so sorry about your injury. I hope the next few weeks fly by and that you are walking without crutches soon.
That totally sucks! I’m not going to BlogHer, but can so feel your pain. Hope these next 4-6 weeks go quickly.
I’m so sorry - as a fellow foot-injurer extraordinaire, I’ve been there before and know (somewhat) your pain… Good luck!
OH NO!!! Sorry to hear about your foot - though surprised you didn’t pick a funky color cast to adorn you swollen little footsie. Sending you happy thoughts for a speedy recovery!
Oh Izzy, that sucks. The injury, the expense, that you won’t be at BlogHer. What a rotten deal, all of it. I’m so sorry.
Broken bones. Booooooo.
Ooh, so sorry. I will miss you and your sweet smile!
This is a terrible practical joke to pull on me.
Oh no! No no no no no. There’s no describing the crappy pain of a broken foot until you’ve had one yourself. And it’s your driving foot, too, eh? UGH.
Good luck with your sale. Someone will buy it, I’m sure, since they’re almost sold out of passes now.
Oooh, that sucks. I’d buy your pass in an instant, but I’m not allowed any time off work in July (busy season). I am sure someone will buy it.
That sucks donkey…well, you know what it sucks. *grin* It bites to be so close, and have something dash your plans.
I have to look at my finances-I may be able to buy your pass. Have to help the ex move today, so I’ll get back to you this evening if you still have it.
Too bad your kids are so little, it could be feed Momma grapes time! LOL
Oh NO! I’m so sorry about your poor foot. You know I totally would have carried your stuff while you carefully crutched your way around BlogHer :) I’ll miss you so much!
Girl, I might be interested. If I can get good flights I might make a last minute appearance, let me look at money and such.
And I am sooooo sorry about your foot. xoxo
Oh noes! That totally sucks. You could rent a wheelchair and let people push you around…I’m sure they would. And our own Liz Henry checked out the hotel in her wheelies and determined it was very wheelchair-friendly.
I’m just grasping at straws I guess, but I’m very bummed you can’t make it :(
Are you kidding me?? I am so sorry to hear about all this crap! And I’m really sad I won’t see you at blogher…
Nooooooo!
It just won’t be the same without you.
I will push your wheelchair! I pushed my aunt’s all through elementary! I’ll even be sober the WHOLE ENTIRE TIME!
I know I’m not alone in my offer (well, except for the sober part)
Well, that is just a kick in the pants eh.
Sorry, and I am sure you are totally bummed.
Oh NO! If I were going, I would carry your stuff. I’d also buy your ticket if I could then afford airfare.
Guess I won’t be much help, huh? Sorry!
Get better quick!
Oh, I’m so sorry! As someone who was on bed rest for four months after I fractured my tibia AND fibula, I understand, I really do.
And I was really looking forward to meeting you. Next year, maybe?
I’m going to pretend I didn’t read this - does that make it not true?
I will also push you around in wheelchair if that changes anything.
So sorry izzy.
Hey lady,
I’m not going to BlogHer either, so I’ll come by and help nurse you back to health!
Hope you feel better soon. E me with directions, mmkay?
Shash
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Seriously, I would carry you on my back around SF if it would get you to come to BlogHer. I’m so sad.
(I’m also sorry you’re stuck in a cast. Ouch.)
That is so wrong.
I must go dry my eyes and blow my nose now.
Hi, So Sorry about your foot, been there done that, it is no fun, elevate often and let everyone feel sorry for you.
I was sent to you, by I think either geekmommy or Themacmommy, but anyways, if the other person who asked about the pass can’t do it, I might. I am trying to get a sponsorship for the room and then if you still have the pass that would be awesome.
Email me if the pass is still available, please.
Oh man, Izzy! I would totally push you around/carry your stuff/wait for you!
But I understand. And I’ll so miss you!
Dude, I know I’ve said this to you already, but I am SO sorry this happened to you. Damn that stupid dog.
oh no!!!!
Oh NOOOOOOO! :(
That sucks. I’m so sorry you are going to miss BlogHer…summer is so not a fun sweaty cast time.
Isn’t always this “seemingly insignificant” little accidents that seem to do the most damage?
So, sorry to hear about this.
Couldn’t you (if you didn’t want to take up one of the wheel chair pusher offers already listed), look into renting one of those “mobile scooters” so you could get around? Just a thought.
Feel better.
Ok, I’ve only been blogging for about 4 months…Someone please explain what goes on at a BlogHer Convention.
Oh, no!!! :(
IzzyMom, I am not a blogger nor a mom, but I saw this (from amalah.com) and had to save your life….or at least your sanity and underarms while you’re in a cast for 4-6 weeks. It’s called a knee walker: http://www.kneewalkerrental.com
and however silly you may look, it comes outfitted with a BASKET and drink holder (so you don’t have to have your trolls following you around carrying all of your shit.) It made MY life easier post-ligament rupture/bone fragment-floating/ankle surgery in May.
I feel your pain and wish you a speedy recovery (and hope the knee walker treats you well.)
um, NO!~ no no no no no. STILL COME. i’m not kidding. YOU HAVE TO STILL COME!!!!! we will lounge around.. i will fdrive and carry you everywhere. you must still come. fuck the actual conference (sorry everyone).. we’ll sit at the bar all day.
i am not kidding.
Oh, no! I am so sorry you won’t be able to go. Rest up and recover quickly.
OMG NO! You can’t NOT go. You’re one of the people I was so excited to meet! I’ll carry YOU, screw your stuff. Just come!
Oh gawd, this sucks. I don’t want to wait another year to meet you. *stomps foot*
No. Just no. Who will I have those late night chat sessions outside with? I need my Izzy fix. Just No.
We can find a way.
I will bring a red wagon and pull you around. Yes?
You can rent a wheelchair and we can have drunken races down the halls! Yes?
You can come and I will give you piggy back rides everywhere we go. Yes?
Just please come. Izzy? Find a way!
Man that sucks! I’m so sorry!
Several people I know have gotten this item:
http://tinyurl.com/4eh7oq
It seems to work well except I’m a little unclear how you would get up and down stairs.
Hey, I have a pink cast right now! My one word of advice: no paper towels. I got my cast wet last weekend (the dumb shower sock I bought had holes in it), and in addition to using the blow-dryer, I stuck paper towels under my foot, inside the cast. With a skewer. I thought I had them lined up side by side, but one of them managed to get stuck under the arch of my foot. It took a crochet hook, my hand and some tweezers to get it out. And if my foot wasn’t broken before, it sure was after that.
What a drag man. Rest up, and get a bunch of HBO series DVDs to entertain you. I
Oh no Izzy! You will be sorely missed.
The good thing is, some of us there might have computers. We can do like a camera conference call thingie?
Hope that foot recovers soon but not before you’ve had ample opportunity to make everyone in your life wait on you hand and…well, foot.
Oh, I’m sorry. Also sorry I have no offers of nifty devices to use while broken, as so many above had. haha. :)
If YOU feel up to it, GO to the conference. Do not listen to your doctor - his job is to make you miserable. And doctors are bigger drama queens than 13 year-old girls. Trust me, I have had SEVERAL breaks and tears in my ankles (sports injuries) and I have never been off my feet for more than a few days. Ever. And no, I didn’t self destruct like every doctor said I would. Go. Have fun.
OMG, Izzy, what happened??
I hope you can still go to the conference. Good luck.
dude. so are you rooming with us or what?
Ouch - hope you’re feeling better soon and I hope we get to meet you at BlogHer!
good. so it’s finalized then. you;re coming. :)
Oh GOOD! I WILL be meeting you this year, then!
Woot!
My day? Is made.
Thanx, Iz (and huz!) You’re (both) the best! ;-)
Oh, Izz…I teared up when I read that you are staying home. But then I saw your update, and I’m crossing my fingers that you will indeed be there!
I hope your foot heals nicely and allows for you to make it. If anything, I’ll carry you the entire weekend. ;-)
Take it from someone who has broken bones, torn ligaments, sprained things and even had a broken bone put back in place on the field by a chiropractor, wrapped it in my glove and off to see the famous doctors at Healthsouth who did Bo Jackson’s hip surgery. I’ve worn casts on my right leg 4 times and my left leg 3 times. Three weeks from now, you will be a wild woman just dying to hang out at Blogher.
i would kill to go, but right now, I don’t have 2 dollars, nevermind 200 soooo, you should just go and enjoy….I’m sure you will be in good shape in 3 weeks, for real.
Oh no! This is such bad news all the way around!
Are you absolutely sure?
I flew to France and traveled all over Bretagne on crutches. I am sure I can slow my pace and help you out. I have that empathy. No worries.
i am going to miss you so much it hurts inside!!!!! but did you read my post about convincing you to go!??!?!?!!!
we will ALL TAKE DRUNK PICTURES DOING NASTY THINGS TO YOUR CAST!!!! come on izz! lol
That is so sad! Ouch! I am bummed about your injury. You were definitely on my list of people I hoped to meet at BlogHer.
Boo.
I am so sorry — Godspeed and get well soon
LOVE YOUR BLOG
Ouch, Izzy!
Listen to the docs though…
No movement….
And you will be right as rain….
But the no movement is the hardest thing to do…
I know….
OUCH! I hope you’re ok.
I’m 26 weeks preggers and my ankles are starting to lose their shape….oh, so not happy about it!
Oh, no! I’m not going anyway, so you won’t miss ME, but that is so absolutely, terribly crappy! I’m so sorry, Izzy. Hope you heal fast, at least.
Oh that sucks. You’ll be greatly missed! I hope that doesn’t hurt too, too much, and I’m sure that at least SOME of that $200 can go toward a giant bottle of wine?
how crappy. i was looking forward to meet you or at least eavesdropping on you (i’m kinda shy).
what a bummer you’re injured. i hope i can participate in a crazy group youtube or skype of the party for you :0) you’re the soul of the party!
i had to sit out the last 2 for health reasons too.
Dude. NOOOOOOOOO!
Seriously. SO WANTED TO SEE YOU.
Wha???? Bossy will miss you like crazy, Iz.
I just dropped by today in the hopes of seeing some glorious ‘Can’t Wait to go to BlogHer!’ post, only to find this suckiness.
Sorry, lady, that really bites. :( I was really, really hoping to finally meet you in SF next week!
Aw crap! I was looking forward to seeing you! I hope you heal quick and keep using that letter opener!
Nice job on Ferrier’s site!
IZZY!
Damn. I don’t know who to be more disappointed for…you for missing the conference or for me …missing out on seeing you again.
It won’t be the same without you, friend.
Get better soon!
