Ride the Like Wind…

So, I saw Sex and the City last night. I don’t know why it got bad reviews. I liked it. People actually cheered when it started and at certain key points in the movie. It was like Rocky Horror for the chick set or something… For the record, I do not cheer at the movies OR yell at the characters.

The best part of the movie, for me, was feeling like you were watching the show again which I know is really REALLY dorky but I get attached to TV shows. Some characters are just so well-written that they seem real and when they go away, it’s sad.

I wanted to watch Angela Chase and Jordan Catalano and Brian Krakow and Rayanne Graff (and Graham Chase who was sort of cute/hot for a TV dad) on My So-Called Life forever.

I wanted to watch Hope and Michael and their friends grow old alongside me on Thirtysomething.

I wanted to watch Felicity and Ben and Noel keep messing things up until they faced reality and became a threesome.

I know. Am pathetic.

But the good news is I hardly watch TV at all anymore, save the stray episode of teh awesomest Mystery Diagnosis, a little CNN and of course mah stories on Showtime (Weeds, Dexter & Californication), all of which are on hiatus for what feels like a freaking year at a time. HATINGIT.

I’m sure I’m missing out on some most excellent reality TV and lawd knows I’m practically a pariah for not watching Lost but I’ll make up for whatever network TV fare I missed this year by watching Lipstick Jungle again in the fall. It’s a cheap TV-14 surrogate for SATC but it’s not bad, really.

Hell, I may even become disturbingly attached to the characters and cry when it inevitably gets canceled. Because everything I like gets canceled within four years, you know. I’m like…TV show kryptonite.

Hey! Guess what? We got a scooter! It’s the coolest thing Seriously, SO. MUCH. FUN.

At some point, like riding a bike or driving a car, the novelty will surely wear off but until then, I’m in love. BIG BIG LOVE. (I know someone will probably say real motorcycles are even more fun but I’m new to all this small combustion engine machinery — 50cc’s is all I can handle right now)

We got it to save on gas because I have a Nissan minivan that’s a not-so-mini gas guzzler. We don’t want to sell it (who’d buy it anyway?) because we live in a hurricane state and if we ever need to evacuate, there’s no way 4 people and three cats in carriers are going to fit in my husband’s car.

The plan is he will ride the scooter to work (he comes home for lunch so that’s six trips a day) and I will drive his car, which is much better on gas, and we’ll only use the momvan when necessary. Since school is now out, we’re not carpooling so I don’t need all the extra seating and it will probably be parked most of the summer.

But all the practical stuff and the 123 mpg aside, I love the scooter. I can’t believe I went my whole life without ever riding one. The only thing more fun? Riding a horse as fast as you possibly can.

Yes, I was one of those horsey girls. I still am.

One of my dreams is to live on a farm (organic, natch) with lots of horses. And hired help to clean up after them — because manual labor that involves horse crap? So NOT a part of my dream.

Maybe I should just have friends with horses instead..

Question for le masses: Has anyone noticed that Claritin makes them kind of um…bitchy? Just wondering.

No picture? I assume it isn’t pink. I saw a girl on a pink vespa the other day. I envied.

Eddie Izzard does a funny routine about people in Italy on their scooters, how chic they look, with their scarves, waving and saying “Ciao”. You must ride your scooter and wave and say “Ciao” for me, ‘kay? Awesome.

And oh, when I watched the Freaks and Geeks box set, and then when I watched the My So Called Life box set, I was like WHYYYY did these shows not get renewed? They are SO GOOD, I want them to keep going 4Evah! I get so attached :)

A scooter is a great idea! I never thought about it before, but you’re right–you can save a ton of gas and it’s lots of fun. I haven’t been on a scooter since college!

Nope, the novelty doesn’t wear off. Oh, except for today, when I had to ride home in 13 degrees and RAINING. Not cool. Apart from that … so much fun!

I love the idea of the scooter..although with my coordination, I’d probably kill me and someone else…oh well..back to the horse….

A scooter is a great idea for the gas crisis of 2008.

We are *so* buying a cheap motorcycle with our stimulus check.

Oh, yeah, and the canning of Men in Trees? My fault. I loved it too much. I am sorry.

Re: Claritin. Not as much bitchy as um, forward? Honest? (okay, maybe we could go so far as blunt and rude)… eating seems to help. Though I would much rather be mean.

You posted a comment on my blog about your fear of cats pooping in gardens? Well, I take back my original response. You can put up a fence for $400, and as soon as I stop spending that much a week on gas, that’s what I’ll be doing.

Good for you for not watching LOST! Ha! You and I are the only people on earth not watching those shows.

Scooter is an awesome idea! I think my Hubby definitely needs one! I couldn’t use it; I drive kids to daycare and back everyday…

Shows you’re missing out on: Bones. And Heroes - also on hold for a year.

I’m right there with you about Felicity! I LOVED that show!

Great post - :-) Happy scootering, I’m green with envy.

    I thought SATC rocked.

and i feel the same about tv characters. in fact, i’m so addicted to my friends, i mean the characters on “ER” that I’m certain to plummet into a depression when the show ends next season.

Thank Gawd I am not the only one in the world that didn’t watch Lost! I was feeling very alone in the world with everyone going all silly over Lost nights and Lost posts and whatever.

thank you for being the other person that didn’t watch it.

I don’t watch Lost, either. Perhaps we should form a support group? We could invite the people that don’t watch American Idol or Dancing With the Stars, too.

I loved My So Called Life. I miss them, too.

Congrats on the scooter. You need to get some Docs and pj pants :) Just kidding, of course.

I’m jealous of the scooter. I don’t watch Lost either, and I still miss Thirtysomething. And Homicide.

Loved thirtysomething too. Was so sad at the end when Gary died. Why did Gary have to die? Also, at the time I was a teenager, and being thirtysomething seemed so far away. Hard to believe that I am now thirtysomething, which means the cast of that show has to be about forty-five to fifty-something. Scary thought.

    I love scooters! That’s awesome.

And me, these days, I only watch a few shows, and Lost is not one of them, either.

I would definitely belive Claritin makes a person bitchy. My daughter was on something similar that made her so cranky I almost couldn’t stand to be around her. Once she stopped taking it, she was fine again.

I keep thinking how weird it was that 30 something was OLD when it came out and now how I’m older than they were.

And thanks because now I will have “ride like the wind to be fuh-ree again” in my head. But it’s better than that creditreport.com jingle which has been there for a week.

I have been contemplating the scooter for a while. My only worry is the weather and what if I get stuck at work - yikes! Maybe I will revisit it for the summer :)

Ooooh. Cool scooter! What a great idea!

I use to have a 50 cc’ Yamaha Scooter. I absolutely loved it. I rode it through all the seasons. What was the best is I could go shopping and throw my purchases in the compartment under the seat and parking was a dream.
That and the compartment under the seat fit a case of beer perfectly.
So far it’s been my favourite method of transportation.

Great. Now I have that annoying, “Baa da da da da, dat, dat, da, da….” from Ride like the Wind in my head. Thanks Izzy.

H gets so annoyed when I get all schmaltzy about Felicity and watch it on a constant loop. I do so love me some Noel and dorm room angst.

I loved me some thirtysomething. I miss it so very much. We’ve talked about this before, no?

My husband wanted to name our son (we had two girls, so no worries) Jordan after, um, Michael Jordan (good grief). I balked at first, but then an image of JORDAN CATALLANO popped into my head and I was suddenly down with the name Jordan…
