BlogHer 07 ~ A Mini Debriefing (Edited to Add)

I’m back from BlogHer 07 and completely exhausted even after a two hour nap. I had a fabulous time seeing old friends and meeting new ones and like last year, even though I’m happy to be home, I’m a little sad that it’s over already.

It was a year of anticipation in the making and I left feeling like I needed more time to just sit around and talk to people without cocktail parties or conference sessions or an awesome city calling people away to sightsee and shop. All that aside, I’m still so glad that I went but I hope it won’t be quite so long until I see ya’ll again.

Yes, that’s me suggesting something mid-year. Anyone interested? No really, I mean it. Email me.

I promise a better, longer and more link-lovey post when I’ve recovered. And pictures…lots and lots of pictures!

˚˚˚˚˚˚˚˚

A big, giant thank you to Aimee, Jen and Ali for guest posting and blogsitting while I was gone. You guys did a great job!

EDITED TO ADD: I’ve gotten a surprisingly strong response to my suggestion of a mid-year get together in January. That said, the planning has begun.

In the interest of finances, babysitting, vacation days et al:

• Consider telling anyone who asks that you want American Express gift cards for Christmas and Hanukkah (to pay for drinks hotel rooms, airfare, rental cars, trains etc)

• Ask your husbands/sigoths to save some vacation days for you so they can watch the kids

• If you’re employed outside the home, be sure to hoard some vacation days (about two or three) for mid-January.

Please email me (izzyirish at gmail dot com) with your suggestions for warm locales with the subject line “January Trip” (and keep your eyes peeled for a Yahoo Group invite in your email)

If I had to do it all over again I would have skipped cocktail party hell and gone to the beer garden on the lakefront for some quality sitting on my ass time.

    I loved seeing you.

  5. By Christina on Jul 30, 2007

Yes, a mid-year meetup is needed.

I told Lisa Stone we needed a BlogHer mommy conference (or unconference) mid-year, and she’s intrigued by the idea. I say we push for it!

  10. By judy on Jul 30, 2007

Please, please, please let’s have a midyear! I’m so mad/sad that I didn’t meet you! I’ve bugged Amanda for every detail about you and now I know how cute you are!!! All weekend long I sulked…as only a mommyblogger cut off from meeting all her mommyblogging idols can sulk. I think i drove husband to the point of madness…

It was so great to meet you, Izzy! And I agree, a mid-year event would be fab, but wouldn’t that be December? I say a tropical vacation meet-up!

  12. By Kaleigh on Jul 30, 2007

I love the idea of a midyear, especially a mommyblogger one. Was awesome getting to know you, and my only regret is that I only attended one day. I think I missed out on getting to know you (and others) better. More bonding! Stat! (And maybe this time, south of the Mason-Dixon line? Please?)

  13. By Shash on Jul 30, 2007

It was so nice meeting you this weekend! And I LOVE the idea of a mid-year meetup. Sign me up for that!

I’m in Orlando. That’s a good place to meetup, no?

  21. By Karianna on Jul 30, 2007

Yeah, I’m up for a “Just Hang Out Conference”

  22. By Jenn on Jul 30, 2007

After our “until 2:30am talk” you know where I stand on that! Loved that we actually did have time to talk one on one without SCREAMING over the techno music or having to hire a private detective to locate anyone you may be looking for! :-)

I really, really did enjoy that we got to spend real time together.

    Sign me up!

  23. By Glennia on Jul 30, 2007

I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you. I’m all for a mid-year mommycon in Austin, New Orleans, LA, Honolulu, Miami…Someplace warm and fun.

  24. By Aprylsantics on Jul 30, 2007

Glad you’re back. Loved your “guest posters/blogsitters”, too. I say the mid-year should be in Atlanta. Then I could lurk. Who knows, maybe I’ll have a blog of my own then…

  25. By FENICLE on Jul 30, 2007

Glad you had fun!!!! Can’t wait to see the pic’s.

Orlando, second week of December gets my vote! ;)

  29. By Mom101 on Jul 30, 2007

I only regret I didn’t get to see you enough.

We’ve started talking about Vegas in January. Any takers? I like the sound of “Moms do Mandalay Bay”

  30. By Izzy on Jul 31, 2007

A meet-up in January is IMMINENT! I’ve gotten a lot of emails from interested people, although the consensus seems to be for something south of the Mason-Dixon because it will be warmer.

And yes, with all the chaos and shuttling and parties and sessions, time was far too limited. I wish we’d had time to sit and talk and for me to hold Sage. All those little ones gave me baby fever!

  31. By Izzy on Jul 31, 2007

I met Busy, I met Busy! And? She rocks :)

  32. By jess on Jul 31, 2007

    i’m in.

  33. By canape on Jul 31, 2007

As much as I would like to hang again in January where we can just chill and not have to listen to the woes of pricing our crafts, I will with all luck, be giving birth. You chickas will have to party on without me.

It was great to meet you.

  34. By Sarah (In the Trenches of Mommyhood) on Jul 31, 2007

I’d love to join you in January! Sign me up!

  35. By Busy Mom on Jul 31, 2007

January trip? Destin, please if it’s over the MLK holiday. I will already be there.

    Otherwise? Count me in.

  36. By Jenny on Jul 31, 2007

January round-up sounds fabulous. We should do it in Houston because we have more strip clubs per capita than anywhere in America.

  37. By dana on Jul 31, 2007

Oooh! Hooray! I could dig this!

  38. By Jenny on Jul 31, 2007

Loving that idea. I just returned to blogging after an extended hiatus and missed out on Chicago. January would be awesome!

  39. By GraceD on Jul 31, 2007

Needless to say, I am sorry to have missed BlogHer if not to bask in the blazing heat of your glowing presence, Izzy.

January meet-up sounds excellent. Las Vegas would be swinging, but it may be surprisingly chilly. Is Mexico out of the question? Lots of package deals in Cancun. Or, anywhere with a fabulous spa?

Don’t take this on all by your fine self, Iz. You need a committee/SWAT team/council of elders for this sort of endeavor. Didn’t you mention that our exalted BlogHer founders may assist?

    xoxoxo

A bloggy mom trip in Jan sounds fun. But we will just be getting back from Hawaii! Have fun y’all!

  41. By Jenn on Jul 31, 2007

Count me in (as I said) for the planning. Can. Not. Wait. The conference without the conference!

  42. By Lotta on Jul 31, 2007

I would love a mid year get together. I second the Vegas option. And it was great to meet you!

  43. By Jazz on Jul 31, 2007

    Izzy!

It was so great to meet you! Not nearly enough time to overcome my shyness and actually talk to people! I would be open to something in January.

  44. By Lady M on Aug 1, 2007

It was great to see you again! Can’t wait for the fanny pack pix.

  45. By Lady M on Aug 1, 2007

    Oh, and Vegas sounds great.

  46. By MammaLoves on Aug 1, 2007

I was really disappointed that I didn’t get the chance to talk to you. There was so much else going on. I’d be interested in a mid-year meeting. I’d love to be added to the list.

  47. By Tere on Aug 1, 2007

My backyard in Miami. I nominate my backyard. You’re all welcome to attend.
