Happy Love Thursday to Hands-on Dads!
Despite my supplying occasional evidence to the contrary, my husband is a pretty good guy and an awesome father.
One little thing that always sort of touches me is the way that he knows all about the kids toys. Like, I can find a little crappydoo somewhere and he can tell me exactly what game or toy to which it belongs. This very simple and seemingly unimportant thing belies it’s significance.
My father, may he rest in peace, was never like that. He wouldn’t have known a Polly Pocket shoe from a Barbie shoe or recognized which puzzle pieces went with which puzzle or known where I left my scissors & glue stick or the name of Strawberry Shortcake’s dog or played pretend games with me outside.
That’s not to say my dad wasn’t there. He was. And he taught me all sorts of things, the most notable being that old favorite “life’s not fair” but also how to fish, water ski, ride a bike and other sundry things. However, he was never dialed into my daily life the way my husband is with our kids. That was my mother’s domain, plain and simple.
So yes, this newfangled modern, involved dad thing is very appealing to me and I’m really happy that my husband and many other dads are so engaged in their children’s lives. Seeing a father caring for his children beyond the traditional bringer-home-of-the-bacon-only role always makes me smile :)

really, is that your husband!!! no wonder your kids are so gorgeous. That’s so sweet about the toys.
My dad taught me about life not being fair, too. Also the golden rule. “Them that gots the gold makes the rules.”
Eep! That’s scary…our husbands are so alike!
My husband’s the same way with our kids. Knows all the ins and outs of what they love to do and what they play with and the video games that they enjoy…
…and he has a shaved head, a goatee and a tatoo. Switched at birth?
Ha! I meant “separated at birth”.
I’m so edu-ma-cated.
Awww…so sweet!
I love this picture of BOTH of them.
So sweet! I love great dads - we’ve got one here too. It’s so sexy to be a good parent, no?
oooh, the Huz revealed! Yeah for Hands-on-Dads. Nice tribute!
Nice photo, and I agree - there is something very special about hands-on dads. They are indeed incredibly sexy!
That is a terrific picture!!!! Love the glasses.
Okay - so I see it now (obvioiusly).
Awesome ROCK hubs! Way to give him some props!
p.s. K would be so proud of your Ad Council ad… he works in Energy Policy.
Fabulous photo. But with such wonderful models, how could it not be :)
Nothing sexier than a good father.
Except maybe my own father….ewwwww. Nevermind.
I’m so grateful for my terrific husband who is as good of a father as he is a husband.
Great pix! It is always nice to see when Dad’s get some luvn!
TY from all of us!
Those kinds of daddies are hot! My husband is one of them, too.
What a great picture! Love P’s hair-adorable.
What a great picture. My Hubz is the same way with the toys. Our Hubz ROCK!
This post ROCKS! Great topic and great photo!
I second your “yay for involved dads!” - I am thankful for my involved husband every day. Nice to see others out there. (Today one of my friends was sick, but wanted her son to come to our friday kid hangout, so her husband came. He fit in so well now she’s worried we’ll want him to come instead of her!)
Yay for involved dads everywhere - even those that DON’T have a clue about the toys (like mine) but are hugely involved anyway, like mine that instituted the family bed around here when I was the one who thought I didn’t want it - most of them have left now, but they come back - there’s nothing like getting up and coming downstairs to get the baby’s medicine, and then coming back up and finding all four kids in the bed snuggled up against their daddy and chatting up a storm about any and everything, or watching him coo at the baby. I love the pic of P and the huz.
Uh, oh. I can’t tell Polly’s shoes from Barbies…does that make me a bad father?
You planned that crazy b-day party for your daughter and you took her to Disney and you blog about her and you keep those nasty Bratz away from her, right? You’re a hands-on dad :)
Wow, those are sure some handsome men you’ve got there! My husband is also an involved, hands-on Dad, and I am thankful for that every day.
Good for Dad!!!!
Dads have come a long way, as have moms. Times, they are a changing.
what a perfect picture!
I totally agree. As much as I rag on my husband for the little things, he’s a great father and to me that’s more important then anything.
I love this post!
I hadn’t realized your husband was such colorful eye candy!
Fantastic picture, and so glad you have an equal partner to share in the responsibilities with.
You’re onto something here Izzy!! I think it’s a new generation of Dads. My hubbie is a great Dad, I mean he can handle 6 kids by himself one time, even took them bowling and the youngest was 21 months. He’d love for us to have 6 kids, but 4 will be more than enough for me!!
My Husband is also a very hands-on dad. I love watching the two of them together.
I really like that picture of them.
Hubba hubba - I love bald guys with goatees!! lol As you can tell if you’ve ever seen a pic of my hubby! LOL Who btw is also SO hands on, he’s such a wonderful father! See how lucky we are?
