Humor Me and Pretend You Care!

I had no idea they were even going to run it but apparently something I submitted to the [tag]Huffington Post[/tag] is up over there today. They didn’t give me a link back or a bio so there are probably only three or four people in the whole blogworld that would ever assume that that  Izzy and myself are one in the same but I’m very excited and hope you’ll go read it!

A big thanks to Kvetch for emailing this morning me and clueing me in that I was up at the HP and to Kristen for encouraging me to submit something!

The photo caption contest is still happening if you want to throw your hat in the ring. The winner and runners-up will be announced Friday!

You already know I think it’s wonderful. And I did wonder why they didn’t get back in touch with you for a bio and picture.

When did your tagline change? I only now noticed that, and I’m cracking up. I just wish I could think of a good picture caption to make you laugh too.

Great post Izzy! When I was a freshman in college, a student was being beat up by a bunch of gang-bangers. Everyone was standing around watching. He was bleeding and could barely stand up. I stepped in and grabbed the kid and helped him out of there. I think the gang-bangers were just shocked that some skinny blonde chick would just walk in and take away their fun. They fled as the police arrived; the kid went to the hospital for a concussion, etc. and I was in complete shock that no one did anything except for me. It’s amazing how many people are willing to just stand by and watch something awful happen. It’s nice to know that you’re in the “do something” population. ;-)

Wow, you are one bad-ass mo-fo!! I loved it.

  6. By Janet on Aug 30, 2006

That was fantastic. It’s amazing how some of us more fearful moms grow huge balls when our kids our born. I too have a brass set since Lily was born. Before that, I never opened my mouth. But the overprotective streak has overtaken the heart and mouth. Yay US!

  7. By mrsfortune on Aug 30, 2006

Loved every word. Wish you had a bio! And somewhere, that girl’s mother is very grateful to you.

It’s a great article and i love huffingtonpost. Along with izzymom, it’s one of my daily reads.

Congrats, Izzy! I feel especially compelled to comment, given our shared, um, affectionate feelings for Ms. H during her Blogher talk. Truly wonderful for you, so well deserved.

  17. By Jill Urbane, The Mentor Mom on Aug 30, 2006

Congrats to you! That was a fantastic post and I only hope that if I am ever in any of the situations that you described I would respond in such a courageous manner. Well done.

Wow. Wow! I don’t know that I would have had the balls to do all those things you did. Or to submit something to The Huffington Post. Well done, you.

Wow. That was a really great piece of writing and one that makes me nod and nod and nod in agreement the whole time I’m reading it. Though, my bravery usually comes out less…well, brave. One night in downtown Chicago a few guys were following my girlfriend and I, commenting, getting closer and generally beginning to freak us out. I turned around and said in a really nasal and LOUD voice, “Not tonight guys, I’m a little GASSY.”

Loved your piece - congrats on such a high profile placement!!

  20. By Betty aka Waya on Aug 30, 2006

OMG! That was a great story!! You’re DA WOMAN Izzy! I have more reasons to respect you more now.

  21. By Amber on Aug 30, 2006

I can soooo relate to your article! Baby #1 was a colicky, “hell in a swadle” type. I thought I would lose it several times those first months but I survived to have another baby. A nice, calm baby. One who takes after his father. Here’s to hoping I don’t produce any more mini-mes in the future. :-)

  22. By Mocha on Aug 30, 2006

I noticed the tagline right away. And laughed. And laughed. And then wanted to get up and dance.

A thousand congratulations to you for getting published over there. Soooo impressive and soooo Izzy of you. I so want to be you.

(Big hugs to you for the kind words at Mommybloggers…. awwwwww…. kisses!)

  23. By Mom101 on Aug 30, 2006

It’s FANTASTIC! Wow, who knew you were so ballsy? It must be the height that gives you an added sense of confidence against gangs of drunken would-be rapists.

And the tag line rocks it, Iz!

  24. By Elizabeth on Aug 30, 2006

Dude, you are something else. That was a great story, and well-deserved attention from the HP.

I’m so sorry it took poor TQ so long to get her reflux diagnosed. I’ve always suspected my “collicky” baby had the same problem.

  25. By jess on Aug 31, 2006

Wow! That was awesome and inspiring. Way to go!

  26. By Kristen on Aug 31, 2006

It’s a good damn thing there’s a Ninja school a block from my house, otherwise I would be totally afraid you’d kick my ass. You’re awesome, Iz.

  28. By tony on Aug 31, 2006

Yikes! Chuck Norris would be proud…

  29. By Mommy Off the Record on Aug 31, 2006

Awesome. Congratulations, Izzy. I loved that piece. I can’t believe you confronted a group of gangbangers. That girl owes you big time.

Like the new tag line too!

  35. By Karl on Aug 31, 2006

Way to go, Izzy! Sheesh, it seems like all the cool women I met at BlogHer are publishing over at Huffington Post. You rock.

  36. By FishyGirl on Aug 31, 2006

Wow, that is so cool! That girl’s mom thanks you even if she has no idea about it. One day I’ll have to figure out how to overcome my fear in big ways, cause right now the small ways are tough enough. I just found you a few days ago, not sure who from (Kristin, maybe?), but I love it - just had to say.

  37. By Anne on Aug 31, 2006

For most of us I think having children makes us realize to what ends we will go to protect them, at totl sacrifice to ourselves.

And your actions with strangers in strange situations…I think they show a remarkable sense of justice and fearlessness. Good for you on all counts.

  38. By Dawn on Aug 31, 2006

    Huzzah Izzy!!!

  39. By Lisa on Aug 31, 2006

Fantastic! I loved it. And I could totally relate about the colic part, not about the chasing down muggers part. you are awesome.
