C’mon Get Happy!

Lots of good news this week — but nothing so newsworthy that it would merit it’s own post, which is precisely why God invented bullet points :)

• Last night I went grocery shopping and guess what I didn’t see? Mmmhmmm. That’s right. NO sleazy magazines to be found. I looked really hard, thinking that perhaps they were trying to fool IzzyMom, but alas, there was nary an FHM, Low Rider or Maxim in sight. *doing a victory lap around the blog*

And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, take a sec and read this post.

I sent the link to the store in question’s corporate HQ and I’m reasonably sure they saw all 75 of YOUR comments and took note of the general consensus. Thanks for your support.macmini.jpg

• I got a new computer and a kick ass flat screen monitor last week. This is a really big deal, you know. My old computer was a fricken RELIC. But my new lover is a smokin’ hot Mac Mini (with the new Intel chip). A few of you may recall that I got the huz one of these for his birthday in January. It’s TINY. And FAST. And I love it! Weeeeeeeee!

• While the installers and subcontractors of my fiber optic cable, phone and TV are all pretty inept and have had to come back numerous times since last Thursday, the service itself is AWESOME! The DVR (I know everyone else on the planet already has one of these but just humor me) is the coolest thing ever and the internet access is faster than I ever imagined it could be. Color me yellow for happy!

• I’m still liking my new haircut but I’m also still trying to figure out the whole blow-drying thing; you know where you sort of get re-acquainted with your hair and have to learn to do the new ‘do. I promise I will post a pic as soon as I have it done and the hub is around to snap a pic. And let it be known far and wide…I will NEVER go to SuperCuts or Fantastic Sam’s again. The convenience just isn’t worth it. My new hairdresser is the bomb and if you live in my city and want his name, drop me an email or a comment.

• I lost FOUR pounds! This may not seem like much but considering that until recently, I hadn’t lost a single pound in almost a year this is a very big deal because it proves I CAN lose it!

What’s my secret for this massive weight loss?

Well, I’ve got P. 99% weaned and it’s made some difference (that’s another post) but more importantly, I stopped buying junk food. If it’s not here, I don’t really think about it, I don’t miss it and I can’t eat it. This is very critical when you have minimal willpower, like me. I’ve also been trying to squeeze in exercise when I can. That’s it.

• And finally, as you may recall, I got rid of my blogroll for a while. I tried to use Bloglines exclusively but I didn’t care for it so I caved and reinstated the good old blogroll. But this time, I have a new policy and a new attitude about things and I feel really good about it!

What are you happy about today?

WOOT WOOT at the 4 pounds! i think that rocks! i want to lose 4 pounds (plus 6).. Lol

  2. By Wendy Boucher on Jul 10, 2006

I’ll take that hairdresser’s name and number, if you please. Congrats on the 4 pounds. I think you lost them on my street because I seem to have found about that many pounds.

  3. By lildb on Jul 10, 2006

omigod, Izzy. you just made me wet my only clean pair of pants.

    rats.

p.s. how fabulous! new, delicious technological lover, new, luscious hair, no skank-zines at the grocery, AND you lost weight! baby, it doesn’t get better than that.

p.p.s. what, exactly, is 99% weaned? I’m struggling with weaning at this moment, and don’t know if I’m coming or going. I *know* it’s pissing the kidlet off, and it’s not a lot of fun for me, either. would you pretty please post about weaning? I needs me some eddikatshun on the subject, from someone who speaks my language.

    *heart*

  4. By Motherhood Uncensored on Jul 10, 2006

Hey! Freat stuff happening. And congrats on the weaning - I remember when I was DONE I dropped weight so fast. It never just came off for me while I was breastfeeding like some people say.

And I wasn’t as hungry. Even with ONE feeding a night - I was still ravenous.

  5. By mamatulip on Jul 10, 2006

I love reading about good things — especially the new ‘puter, the four pounds and the fact that the supermarket really listened to you. YEAH!

  6. By Heather on Jul 10, 2006

Oooh those DVR things sound so cool. Me, up here with my rabbit ears? Totally jealous. :)

  7. By angela on Jul 10, 2006

All I’s gots to say is YAY!

  8. By Mom101 on Jul 10, 2006

So many good good things and, as it should be, happening to good people.

  9. By Lisa B on Jul 10, 2006

I’m happy you lost 4 pounds. Yeay YOU. It is HARD to do. And can’t wait to see the pic of the new do. And so happy the market listened and put something into action. Yeay!

  10. By Karen Rani on Jul 10, 2006

Well aren’t you (literally) just a merry ray of sunshine! Woot! On all counts! Way to go Izzy. You’re one of my heros, girlfriend.

  11. By sweetney on Jul 10, 2006

yay on 4 pounds! yay on new computer! yay on new haircut! MOTHERFUCKIN’ YAY, MAN!!!

  12. By Izzy on Jul 10, 2006

I emailed you trhe info. And that 4 lbs? Please don’t return it. Give it to the needy or send it to Nicole Ritchie.

  13. By Betty aka Waya on Jul 10, 2006

WOW! You’ve been busy! You go girl w/the supermarket! That’s Izzy power at work! Fantastic Sam’s, they’re still around?! That’s probably the same person who gave me my 1st and last perm that lasted 3 freaking years back in 1986. And 4 lbs! Whoohoo! I’m still trying to lose my “muffin top”! :(

  14. By Dawn on Jul 10, 2006

    Where to start?

That’s awesome the magazines aren’t back!!! I love it when people take you seriously and don’t just humor you. It’s a great feeling and you have taken a stand on an important issue. lol. No pun intended.

A new computer, it looks awesome. I would like to try out a mac someday but for now I am happy with windows.

Glad you like your haircut. It’s great you have someone to take your picture too. I use a web cam and for proper lighting my pics are all taken out on my balcony.

Congrats on not buying junk food. I have minimal willpower when it comes to a few things but I can’t think of them offhand.

Congrats also on the four pounds. That’s what I lost from doing the kidney liver colon cleanse earlier this year. That is awesome news.

Happy to see your blogroll back. I like your new policy. It is upfront and real and I don’t see anyone having a problem with it. It is your blog after all. I read another article about blogrolls today and it was good. It’s at lorelle on wordpress.

What am I happy about today? Quite a bit. Too long to list in here. Have a great evening!

  15. By Dawn on Jul 10, 2006

Nicole does need it doesn’t she!

  16. By Blackbeltmama on Jul 10, 2006

Yeah! Great news about the store. The hairdresser comment almost made me cry. Mine is moving many states away and I just don’t know what I’ll do. I am used to having a do that just does what its supposed to do without much work. No one else has ever been able to do that for me and my hair. . . but now I’m just whining and hijacking your post, but you hit a nerve there. I’m considering a plane ticket six states away as part of the hair fee so I can continue to go to him. Don’t think Mr. BBM will appreciate it though.

  17. By Chag on Jul 10, 2006

Wow! One person CAN make a difference. Congrats on getting those magazines off the rack (and thererfore harder for us guys to find them).

What am I happy about? In less than ten hours, I’m leaving for the beach for six days.

What am I stressed about? In less than ten hours, I’m leaving for the beach for six days.

  18. By Allysun on Jul 10, 2006

I second the need for a post on weaning!!

I got my girl down to six feedings a day (24 hours) and suddenly she’s back up to ten again. It’s driving me nuts. Sometimes she wants real food and sometimes she throws it down on the ground and cries while signing to nurse. I’m losing my mind!

  19. By Allysun on Jul 10, 2006

I’m happy because I think I finally found a doctor who can fix my neck problem. It’s going to be a long road, but the idea that there is a solution out there makes me happy with hope!!

  20. By Carla on Jul 10, 2006

I’m happy I read your blog today and can see how happy we all are….ain’t life grand?

  21. By Melissa R on Jul 10, 2006

    I have computer envy.

I am happy because the weather was nicer today than it was yesterday.

  22. By Mama G on Jul 11, 2006

Great news re: the sleezy rag mags. Congrats!

And congrats on the new DVR. I’m not a huge tv-aholic, but can’t imagine my life without it!!

What am I happy about today? My little man is sleeping soundly and I have a night to myself … ahhh, makes me so happy!

  23. By Elizabeth on Jul 11, 2006

Hooray for everything in this post! I can’t wait to see the new haircut.

I’m happy that most of my bills can now be paid online, no more putting it off because I don’t have stamps or waiting for checks to clear.

  24. By Izzy on Jul 11, 2006

99% weaned means I nurse him maybe once very other day, usually in the morning when he gets up at the crack of dawn and I’m dying to close my eyes for a little while longer. My milk isn’t totally dried up yet but I imagine it will be if I can go 3 or 4 days without nursing.

  25. By Izzy on Jul 11, 2006

Oh man…she can sign? That’s rough. I feel ya. My only advice is to do it really slowly.

  26. By Jenny on Jul 11, 2006

Yay! I love me a good happy post. (Also, DVR’s are the best things since sliced cheesecake and you will wonder how you ever lived without one.)

  27. By ghandi rules on Jul 11, 2006

You actually got the grocery store to listen? I’m amazed that they pulled the magazines. Bravo Izzy, you rock Ms. Ass Kicker.

  28. By Nan on Jul 11, 2006

Love, love, love your new computer - my husband has one, and I use a G4 at work. Currently, I’m using a rather large Mitsubishi Diamond Pro monitor, and I have a second monitor next to it - great set-up for graphic designers. I’m ready for a a flat screen though.

Congrats on the other great achievements! 4 lbs is exciting - drink at least 1 to 2 liters of water a day, especially if you’re exercising.

  29. By Sunshine Scribe on Jul 11, 2006

Yay you! I have the same computer and I loooooooove it. Oh and not buying junk food - it is the only way I can stop the cravings. If I can’t find it, I can’t eat it! Congrats on the 4lbs!! And on everything else!

  30. By Nan on Jul 11, 2006

I’m a dope…I have a G5, not a G4 - just being a hardware snob. Anyway, thanks for your comment on my blog…I guess I better enjoy those dates while I can! Have I mentioned how much I enjoy reading your blog? Well, I do. :-P

  31. By Lisa on Jul 11, 2006

It sounds like an awesome week!

You know, (regarding the mags in the store), you’ve totally inspired me to say something to the one store we go to. That is precisely why I do not buy Cosmo or anything like that anymore. My kids do NOT need to see those topic headlines sprawled across it. And I got a subscription to Redbook last year (for free from ClubMom), and was hiding the very first issue from something it said on the cover. WTH?

    That computer looks awesome!!

Junk food=my vice. But you’re right - if I don’t have it, I don’t eat it. I do miss it though. I’ve tried replacing that horrific carb/salt craving with peanuts. I *think* they’re healthy or healthier. ;)

  32. By Lisa on Jul 11, 2006

P.S. Did you go through some blogroll politic stuff? I wasn’t even aware there was any until one of the blogs I used to read faithfully started bitching about things (and being annoying by saying it to a broad audience). The funny thing is…she complains about reciprocal links, or having to read blogs she’s not interested in because she feels they say “too much” or whatever; yet then she complains that her readership has dropped off or someone took her link off of their site. I can’t get my head around it. If I link you, I really like you. There’s blogs I come across that have my link and they’ve never said a word on my blog, and 99% of the time I try to remember to link them too. I’ve had people drop me because I never linked to them, and I really didn’t know (or remember) I was on there! Ugh. Can’t win.

  33. By Sue on Jul 11, 2006

I’m happy for your grocery store victory, your 4 lbs and your wonderful new beautiful computer. I am DVR free because I don’t have a TV…I’m SUCH a weirdo!

What am I happy about? I just bought my plane tix for BlogHer and I will be there Thursday afternoon. More time for fun!

  34. By Stacy on Jul 11, 2006

My friend was just moved to a hospice facility yesterday and the difference between there and the hospital is like dog doo and cotton candy. She’s so much more comfortable and cared for and definitely in less pain.

I’m also happy that my husband understands that I cannot leave town to go upstate and watch him in a 4-day member guest golf tournament. I’d spend the entire time with my kids and MIL in the hot, humid, black fly and mosquito-ridden town of boringsville.

Christina Ag is such a sleeze.
That’s great that you got your local market to get rid of the trashy mags. Go mom power!

  35. By Ed Bacchus on Jul 11, 2006

Congrats on the new PC, so does this mean you can take your old one to Blogher?

Happy because I made my first car payment on the new car so technically it’s finally broken in.

  36. By Lisa on Jul 11, 2006

Yay! That is all good stuff. I made the no hair cuttery/supercuts vow myself a few years back. After all, it’s your HEAD. People can see it at all times.
    Congrats on the four pounds.
And yeah, I’m no prude. But those magazines right in the check out line standing there with your kids are CRAZY. “Mom, what’s a multiple orgasm?” I’d rather just have to fend off begging for candy, thanks.

    Lisa

  37. By Christina on Jul 11, 2006

That’s a whole lot of happy you got going for you there! And 4 pounds - woohoo! I’d try your secret, but Aaron insists on junk food in the house, so that’s not gonna work. But dude, your biggest accomplishment is getting rid of those magazines! Go you!

  38. By Dawn on Jul 11, 2006

Hmmm. That’s a good question. My husband made me happy today. He gets big ups for that.

And DVR? We got ours two days ago and I am still a little shell shocked. It is TOO MAny options…..Argh.

I would also be happy to see Pirates of the Carribean, but I will wait until Em is ensconced with her grandmother…for a month.

  39. By supa on Jul 11, 2006

Oooh, new mac! How do you like it with the intel chip? Do you use any Adobe software and notice a difference?

    (nerdery out of the way)

Can’t wait to see pix of the hair. And high-fives for taking back Control of the Roll.

  50. By kittenpie on Jul 12, 2006

I am singing the “happy happy joy joy” song for you…
I am happy because yesterday I hung out with HBM and her WonderBaby.
And also because for my medieval festival at work today, Misterpie baked me two castle cakes with our most awesome cake mold. He is such the rock behind the rock star.

  51. By Tony on Jul 12, 2006

Ahhh, anything Mac is cool. Steve Jobs is the devil because that stuff cost too much and my wife goes crazy when I buy…

Really cool about the Mags (they know they’re being watched now..)

Why am I happy? My daughter turned 1! :)

  52. By Nancy on Jul 12, 2006

Wow… good for you on all that stuff. It’s nice to have stuff working for you, isn’t it?

I’m impressed about the grocery store thing. It’s good to know that blogs can and do make a difference.

And I’m about ready to add my blogroll back too — I’ve missed it. Just trying to decide if I can do the annotated version I’ve been wanting to create.
