Channeling Vegetables
TQ: I don’t like onions.
Me: They’re okay when they’re cooked. Have you tasted them?
TQ: No
Me: Then how do you know you don’t like them?
TQ: I read their mind and they told me what they taste like.
Me: Oh, okay. *barely suppressing gales of laughter *

Thanks to everyone for you kind words for The Story of P and all the happy birthday wishes for him. I appreciate it. We didn’t throw him a party because we’re going to have one this Wednesday at the beach. We’ll be there for four days doing our annual beach reunion with Hubz’s family. Frankly, that’s about 2 days too long for me. I’ve never lived more than 30 minutes from a beach but being all whitey-white like I am, I typically burn despite using copious amounts of sunscreen. Add a baby toddler (he took his first multiple steps this week!) and a 5 yr old and it’s really not my dream vacation but it will do. Hubz has been so grumpy lately, I hope he gets some R&R out of it and recharges his pissy batteries.
So yes, I’ll be away for a few days and since we’ll have a dial-up connection and one laptop between us, I doubt I’ll be getting much screen time. I’ll definitely miss reading all your blogs too much to not peek at a few but I’m pretty sure I won’t be doing much on the computer. I considered asking someone to guest post here but I don’t want to impose on anyone so I’ll probably just take a spin through the archives…
And because other than my son’s birth story, I haven’t been living up to my Mommy Blogger title and writing about my kids much at all, I’m going to start a monthly posting about them. I read a really good one the other day and it inspired me. I feel guilty that I’ve hardly done anything for P, in particular. No baby book or calendar, no photo albums; nothing but my monthly calendar with all his milestones scribbled on it. The second kid always gets the shaft… But I’m going to challenge myself and try to move past that. My memory sucks and P is impossible to video so blogging will have to do. And TQ, who was easily the world’s most photographed child before her brother was born, is growing up so fast, if I don’t document it now, I won’t have any record of her every having been this age. I’m wallowing in a bit o’ mommy guilt here. Can you tell?
Tomorrow will be packing day. It always takes a whole day to pack for the beach. I absolutely cannot stand it. I become ADD-Mom, running around, grabbing things willy-nilly; going into a room and forgetting what I went in there for and getting totally sidetracked by something else. And if that wasn’t enough, when we finally arrive at the hotel, I will realize about 10 things I forgot so it will be back out to Target to buy it all. So much for relaxing!
Speaking of packing, I don’t even know WHAT I’m going to do about BlogHer. That 15 lbs of baby weight I’ve been bitching about for a year is still with me, my wardrobe is for shit, my hair need serious help and I haven’t weaned P yet. I think I’ll save all that for another post. My plan was to be brief but if you come here with any regularity, you night have noticed I don’t do brief very well…lol
I doubt I’ll post again before we leave but please be sure to stop back while I’m gone as there will be something here, even if I’m not.
{{hugs to all}}
(I just finished this for Mrs. Mogul. I’ve been busting my booty all morning trying to get it done so I can start the nightmare known as packing and now I wish I hadn’t…)
PS: Did anyone get an email from someone named Chad Horton?
PSS: The next time I consider conceding to my inner skinflint and buying some bargain beach towels for TQ to take to camp, someone please remind me that after washing those pieces of crap, all my lighter colored towels (and my khaki shorts that somehow got mixed in) are now tinted blue and covered with a thick layer of blue, fuzzy lint from said shitty, cheap-ass towels and that it was so not worth it.

I love that the onions are talking to TQ. So funny!
Have fun in the sun (or shade). My favourite part is escaping with a novel that I just can’t put down. There is something wonderful about turning pages near the water. However now that P is taking multiple steps, all eyes will likely be glued to him.
Hope you have a beachin’ good time. That was corny. Sorry.
Channelling vegtables - I love it! And first multiple steps, that is so exciting!!! I helped raise Jeremy’s older and so with Jeremy I haven’t done most of the things that most parents do with first borns. I like blogging about him and taking his picture though.
That’s so cute about the onions. It seriously sounds like something my 5 year old son would say. :)
Hope you have fun at the beach.
That is one special medium - a child who can channel vegetables :) So great.
I hope you have a wonderful time at the beach!!!
Have a great time on vacay. I am so jealous. And enjoy the birthday party. Extra onions on my piece of cake!
Lisa
Have a great time at the beach! You’re like me, I’m so pasty I skip the tan and go straight for the burn.
Who’s Chad Horton? Am I missing something?
Have a great time Izzy! You will enjoy it once you’re there, after the sun set (so you won’t get too burnt) and seeing how your kids having way too much fun w/the waves and the sand. Nice Kodak moments!
Can’t wait to hear all about it once you’re back!
I think I did (the email)… Remind me what it’s about. Love the veggies thing and girl, I may have to skip half the day on Friday at Blogher and go shopping and get my hair done :) You’re not alone.
Have a great time!
YAY! I love reading other people’s kid dialogue. More more more!
Have a fabulous time at the beach. I’ll be here when you get back.
Hi Iz! Have a great trip. Let’s please get together again after you return and unwind and do your laundry and fish the last of the sand out of P’s butt.
See you!
Packing LOL. I was going to Vegas for less than 24 hours, so I started with the idea of only taking one set of clothes (wearing them) and just taking fresh sox and undies. Then I thought I would want a swimsuit. And a robe. And oh yes something to sleep in. Flip flops in case I went to the pool. Then I conceded that I should wear something nicer at night, so I took a dress. Which involved different shoes. And a different jacket…and so on.
BlogHer - don’t worry. I am sure we are all arriving with the thought that we will be the dorkiest, schlubbiest, fattest mess there - but who cares if we are. I LOVE YOU because of your honesty, your wit, your spirit. If you come weighing 450 lbs with clumps of hair falling out and a bad skin condition, you are still the same wonderful Izzy.
Personally, I am trying to GAIN weight. I am determined to win the ass-off and mine just isn’t hanging far enough over the edge of my chair yet.
Hmm, wonder what other veggies TQ communes with…
That is serious talent! LOL!
Enjoy the beach, and the sand in all orifices… I’m with you on the burn thingy. Which is why the beach and I are not good friends!
You know, reading the minds of Onions…..you could make some serious cash from that….
As a fellow Paley McWhite-pants, I sympathise with the burning. I hate the beach too. Have as much fun as you can and take oodles of pictures. TQ will be ducking the camera all too soon.
I am pretty white myself, but half my kids are so tan they don’t even look like they are mine! The other two are pastey and white so they look like they belong to me. I wonder if people think I am babysitting the other two? We are off to the pool, but I wish I could go to the beach! I love the beach even though I tend to get a bit crispy too. Have a great time (or as good a time as you can have on a vacation with kids!) and try not to get burnt!
OK, the vegetable psychic link is hilarious. Best excuse yet to not eat vegetables!
I’m in a state of panic over Blogher also. Haven’t lost any weight, need to find something to wear, get my hair done, etc. Eeek!
I hear ya about the beach. I’m a pale girl, too, and sadly Cordy got my skin tone. So we both require liberal use of sunscreen and still burn anyway.
I did get an email from Chad Horton. They don’t do a typepad version though so I’m out of luck even if I was interested. I was wondering if anyone else heard from him.
And, it only takes you a DAY to pack with two little ones. Mine are the same age practically and I started 4 days before we left. 4 INSANELY IRRITATING DAYS. I’m jealous it only takes you a day. Have a good time!
chad horton- yes. hadn’t decided what to do, because i don’t really know WHAT it is. thoughts on it????
blogher.. i’m so jeans and tank topping it. love me or leave me. lol
rather than wish you bon temps, I just want you to try and have a decent, surviveable experience. esp. the packing — dear god, but I dread the packing.
also, why am I not envious of you (and all) who are attending BlogHer? Because of the laundry list you gave. ’cause, jeebus knows, that’s an impossible list. for me, anyway. gee, I’m being real effing supportive. sorry, Iz. I’m a blowhard today. argh.
but I still hope you enjoy watching your kiddo toddle around! xoxoxo
have fun!!!
What a cute story. I wish I was heading to the beach. I love it so much although I haven’t been there yet with my toddler. Something makes me think I won’t love it as much when I have to lug 50 pounds of toys and towels and umbrellas and snacks, etc. Try to relax and have some fun!!!
I’m glad my hubby’s not the only one with pissy batteries.
Oh, and hey… thanks for totally making my day. It’s a wonderful feeling to be noticed by one of your blogger idols.
Tim had to hear about it all day.
Happy sandcastle building!
OOoo I so love the beach!! I do hope despite the threat of a burn and having two kids to hover over, you do have a good time!! You will be missed!
Oh no, I just bought cheap ass towels at Rite Aid–3 for $9.99. I better wash them separately. Thanks for the tip.
You’ll be missed while you’re at the beach, but I hope you have a great time!
reading minds is a very special power…especially reading a vegetable’s mind
yet, please, don’t share it with groovy girl :D
bon voyage!
To me, the beach sounds heavenly. The beach without kids, that is. With kids not so much. :)
Enjoy your trip as much as possible.
Kristen and I both axed the Chad Horton email. It seems like a pyramid scheme to me, and separately, I don’t think that moms are exactly the target audience for people who read blogs on their cellphones and add them to their own homepages. It was all kinda fishy to me.
Have a great, restful, onion-free trip.
Have a most wonderful trip….
I’ll miss reading you… But look forward to all the tales…
It is amazing how much stuff is required for a wee beach trip… Considering how small the bathing suits are and all the rest… it takes a uhaul just to bring all the stuff… and then u have to lug it to the beach…
ahhhhh…
I’m getting better however… i always pack and then forget if I packed all the essentials which requires me to unpack to see if I packed… when do we get our brains back????
hope you’re having fun! [and mrs mogul is lookin’ good!]
Yes - I heard from Chad Horton. Twice. Haven’t responded. I really can’t imagine people checking my blog from their cell phones and frankly, I’d worry if they did.
Enjoy the beach!
With apologies to the real Chad Horton, that name sounds like a porn star’s stage name.
Travel safe. Leave the laptop off…the beach sounds much more enjoyable.
Yes, got Chad’s mail. Disregarded.
Have the BEST time. Will still stop by here. Will miss you!
yeah…I’ve learned that “towel” lesson the hard way.
I’m going through the same wardrobe/hair/weightloss fret about BlogHer, even though I know I’ll love meeting everyone else and won’t give a second thought to whether they are perfection personified or not. But I have my own double standards.
Have a wonderful trip!!
Apparently I was being generous in terms of “Chad:”

(thank mel in orygun for this)
THANK YOU for the info on “Chad,” Mom101!
Honestly, the scams cannot survive against the combined forces of women online. I love it. I just love it.
Chad appears to be some sort of spammer, so far he has sent me 4 emails, each one getting more aggressive. He’s very upset that I won’t participate in whatever it is that he is selling.
